Massage therapy is emerging as an effective modality to support as well psychological well-being. Growing evidence suggests that massage and bodywork approaches can help alleviate symptoms of psychological distress, regulate the autonomic nervous system, reduce stress hormones, and boost the production of mood-enhancing neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. In other words, massage does not just feel good—it changes the way the brain and body communicate.
What are the benefits of these modalities?
Deep tissue and Swedish relaxation massage
Swedish massage focuses on relaxation and uses lighter strokes to relieve tension, while deep tissue massage applies more intense pressure to target deeper muscle layers and alleviate pain. Both techniques can help with muscle tension, but they serve different purposes and use different methods.
Trigger point release
Trigger points are small contracture knot in muscle tissue and they feel denser or tighter than the surrounding muscle tissue. The constant tension is the fibers of the trigger point itself restricts circulation of blood in its immediate area. The resulting accumulation of the by-products of metabolism. as well as deprivation of oxygen and nutrients needed for metabolism, can perpetuate trigger points for months or even years unless some intervention occurs! The difficulty in treating trigger points is that they typically send pain to some other site.
Myofascial release
Myofascial release therapy is a specific massage technique that focuses on relieving tightness and pain in the fascia, the connective tissue surrounding muscles. It involves applying pressure to trigger points in the fascia to help release tension and improve mobility.

The Trager Approach uses the language of touch and movement to promote sensory awareness and ease of movement. This includes gentle bouncing, stroking, elongations and a variety of small and easy body movements that are calming and pleasurable. Ayurvedic medicine on the other side, India’s ancient medical system, considers the lymphatic fluids the “water of life”. When the body recognizes that there is bacteria within the lymph fluid, the lymph nodes begin creating more white blood cells. Because there is a higher level of production going on, the lymph nodes can swell up and sometime become painful. The easiest way to support your best defender of good health is by drinking enough water. It is also beneficial to go regularly for a walk or hike since the contraction of the leg muscles functions like a pump that gets the lymph fluid moving. You can get yourself a small rebounder and jump on it for just 15 minutes every morning – a very efficient way to get the lymph fluids flowing. Put your legs up the wall while laying down comfortably for 10 minutes at the end of the day, specially if you have been sitting for long hours.
